This is a good place to re-emphasize one key difference between a coupon and a call option. Most coupons are free, but as we've mentioned, you have to buy an option. The price is known as the premium, and it's non-refundable. You don't get it back, even if you never use (i.e., exercise) the option. So, remember to factor the premium into your thinking about profits and losses on options.
If the price of the underlying increases and is above the put's strike price at maturity, the option expires worthless and the trader loses the premium but still has the benefit of the increased underlying price. On the other hand, if the underlying price decreases, the trader’s portfolio position loses value, but this loss is largely covered by the gain from the put option position. Hence, the position can effectively be thought of as an insurance strategy.
A whole lot of traders only use micro and mini lots. The thing is, large accounts are using Standard lots as these can bring the most profit. If we use the dollar example from above, it would mean that 1 pip equals $10. If there is a 20 pip movement you would have an equivalent of $200. This shows great potential for both profits, and, unfortunately, losses. Like we already mentioned, Standard lots are only for larger accounts, and you would need to have a larger capital to be able to invest in these.

Options are contracts giving the owner the right to buy or sell an asset at a fixed price (called the “strike price”) for a specific period of time. That period of time could be as short as a day or as long as a couple of years, depending on the option. The seller of the option contract has the obligation to take the opposite side of the trade if and when the owner exercises the right to buy or sell the asset. Our free Forex course has been designed with you in mind. Trading can be a fairly subjective topic. The way that we have designed this course is to really get you thinking about certain topics and ideas. We want to align your thinking to an experienced trader. Trading involves a meticulous eye to detail in a robotic-like nature. It is not something that you can just turn on and off. Throughout this course you will start to think more about trading in a wider concept.
The blender company could have reduced this risk by shorting the euro and buying the USD when they were at parity. That way, if the dollar rose in value, the profits from the trade would offset the reduced profit from the sale of blenders. If the USD fell in value, the more favorable exchange rate will increase the profit from the sale of blenders, which offsets the losses in the trade.
