To start trading forex via an online broker, you will need an electronic device connected to the internet. This could be a relatively modern desktop or laptop computer, a mobile phone or a tablet. Windows and Android are probably the best operating systems to have for forex trading, but many trading platforms are also available for Mac and iOS devices.
Now, let's say a call option on the stock with a strike price of $165 that expires about a month from now costs $5.50 per share or $550 per contract. Given the trader's available investment budget, he or she can buy nine options for a cost of $4,950. Because the option contract controls 100 shares, the trader is effectively making a deal on 900 shares. If the stock price increases 10% to $181.50 at expiration, the option will expire in the money and be worth $16.50 per share ($181.50-$165 strike), or $14,850 on 900 shares. That's a net dollar return of $9,990, or 200% on the capital invested, a much larger return compared to trading the underlying asset directly. But most of this 2010 work is devoted to making money, offering six strategies to earn a steady income by trading. He also provides important risk management techniques as well as material on the psychology of trading. It includes an explanation of Smith's unique "rejection rule," a strategy designed to double the profit generated from basic channel breakout systems.
A few more things need to be said regarding bid and ask price. The most basic way to describe ask and bid is that it is a two-way price quotation, the bid price being the maximum price a buyer is willing to pay and ask price being the minimum price seller is willing to take. As for Forex, profit is made when your broker asks for a price that is higher than he would be willing to bid, if, for example, you were the seller. Now that we know this, it is also important to know that that, let’s call it “area” between the bid price and ask price is known as the spread.

Forex illustrated provides reliable and independent information about foreign exchange market. Our aim is to offer insightful and useful analysis of the best tools and learning materials for mastering the skills of trading in a productive, fun and fast manner. Starting from different currency trading strategies to honest broker reviews and much more.
The smallest lot that is on offer by a vast number of brokers is called a Micro lot. It equals 1000 units of a currency. So if we are taking into account, for example, EUR, that micro lot will be equivalent to 1000 EUR. A 2 pip, in this case, would be worth 20 cents. It is suggested if you are new to Forex trading, that you use this type of lots. If you have more capital to invest, then Mini lot would be a far better way to make a profit. Let’s say you have a dollar-based account and are trading a dollar-based currency pair. In this instance, 1 pip is equivalent to $1. Since the market fluctuates, and pips can skyrocket or plunge, profits or losses can be far greater.
CURRENCY PAIR: The quotation and pricing structure of the currencies traded in the forex market: the value of a currency is determined by its comparison to another currency. The first currency of a currency pair is called the "base currency", and the second currency is called the "quote currency". The currency pair shows how much of the quote currency is needed to purchase one unit of the base currency.
From the option writer’s (seller) perspective, if the stock price is below the strike price, then the option is known to be “out of the money.” When the option is out of the money at expiration, then the option becomes worthless. This is good for the option writer because he profits by keeping the premium paid by the buyer. (Every buyer of an option must pay a premium to the seller of the option). When the option becomes worthless, the option writer does not have to pay the option holder anything and keeps the premium he received.

Forex provides you with high leverage, which allows you to trade a big amount of money even with the initial margin. That margin depends on your broker and the size of your position and it can go from 50:1 up to 200:1 in some cases. Again you will need to set-up a margin account with your broker. So, what do these leverages mean? If there is a 50:1 leverage, that means that the minimum margin requirement is only 2% or 1/50 of the total value of trade in a trading account that is available as cash. Usually, people rely on 1:50 and 1:100. The leverage 1:200 is used when it comes to positions of $50.000 and less.
Now that we've reviewed basic terminology, let's look at some of the differences between trading stocks vs. currencies. In currency trading you are always comparing one currency to another so forex is always quoted in pairs. Sometimes authors of currency research will refer to only one half of the currency pair. For example if an article is referring to the euro (EUR) trading at 1.3332 it's assumed the other currency is the U.S. dollar (USD).
Although there are plenty of great options trading books for beginners, "Trading Options For Dummies" offers a basic, yet comprehensive overview of the subject. Updated with new facts, charts, and strategies, this 3rd edition will help you understand today's markets and evaluate the right options for your needs—showing you how to weigh option costs and benefits, build a strategy, and broaden your retirement portfolio. The title may suggest otherwise, but this reference book is also ideal for intermediate-level investors, too, or those with general trading options knowledge yet want to better understand risk factors, new techniques, and more.

The US dollar is involved in around 80% of all Forex transactions, which makes it the single most traded currency on the Forex market. All currencies are quoted in pairs, which consist of the base and the counter-currency. The exchange rate always shows the price of the base currency, expressed in terms of the counter-currency. For example, if the EURUSD (euro vs. US dollar) pair trades at 1.20, this means that it takes $1.20 USD to buy 1 euro.
All the information you need to know that goes into a forex trade itself. Such as the market makers, selling short and many more. We also included a chapter on risk management. Forex trading although extremely volatile, is not gambling, you should ensure you won’t lose too much by setting up stop-loses and tracking trades closely. All these details are covered in chapter 8.
The table shows that the cost of protection increases with the level thereof. For example, if the trader wants to protect the investment against any drop in price, he or she can buy 10 at-the-money put options at a strike price of $44 for $1.23 per share, or $123 per contract, for a total cost of $1,230. However, if the trader is willing to tolerate some level of downside risk, he or she can choose less costly out-of-the-money options such as a $40 put. In this case, the cost of the option position will be much lower at only $200.
There are many reasons why you should learn to trade. The best forex trading strategies will empower you to earn a considerable amount of money over time. Sometimes different forex platforms use a number of different buzz words, all of which might mean the same thing, but tend to confuse the average beginner. There are also literally thousands of acronyms in the forex trading scene, this section is designed to get you up to date with the most important ones, any that you don’t know simply Google and you should get a good enough definition from Investopedia. This section also talks about margins, spreads and other variables between different options.
My only complaint about both books is that she could use a more attentive editor, but there's nothing so bad it's really distracting. I read a review here recently where the reader said the grammar was so bad he/she couldn't finish the book (I can't remember if it was one of these two or another trading book). That's short-sighted arrogance in my opinion. The most eloquent speaker or the most concise and grammatically correct writer is not usually the best teacher. Also, if Anna had a talented editor go over this with a fine-toothed comb, yes it would be slightly easier to read, a little less repetitious, and probably a little shorter, but it would be more expensive too. If you want to learn how to work on your own Harley, the Haynes manual was written by a professional technical writer with a professional photographer looking over his shoulder at the work of a professional mechanic. Yet they (or their editors) still usually leave out all sorts of important details and perspectives that the grizzled old greasemonkey down at the shop is willing to give you if respect his experience and can dodge his tobacco juice and parse his colorful language. The Haynes manual is certainly cleaner and easier to read, but I'd prefer a conversation with the veteran any time.

There are some advantages to trading options. The Chicago Board of Options Exchange (CBOE) is the largest such exchange in the world, offering options on a wide variety of single stocks, ETFs and indexes. Traders can construct option strategies ranging from buying or selling a single option to very complex ones that involve multiple simultaneous option positions.
You don’t have time to sit and watch the markets every minute of every day. You can better manage your risk and protect potential profits through stop and limit orders, getting you out of the market at the price you set. Trailing stops are especially helpful; they trail your position at a specific distance as the market moves, helping to protect profits should the market reverse. Placing contingent orders may not necessarily limit your risk for losses.
