Our free Forex course has been designed with you in mind. Trading can be a fairly subjective topic. The way that we have designed this course is to really get you thinking about certain topics and ideas. We want to align your thinking to an experienced trader. Trading involves a meticulous eye to detail in a robotic-like nature. It is not something that you can just turn on and off. Throughout this course you will start to think more about trading in a wider concept.
All currency pairs that involve the US dollar as either the base or counter-currency are called major currency pairs. They include the EURUSD, GBPUSD, and USDJPY, to name a few. Currency pairs that don’t include the US dollar, but include the remaining seven major currencies, are called cross pairs. Examples of cross pairs are GBPJPY, GBPAUD, and AUDNZD.

Suppose a trader buys 1,000 shares of BP (BP) at $44 per share and simultaneously writes 10 call options (one contract for every 100 shares) with a strike price of $46 expiring in one month, at a cost of $0.25 per share, or $25 per contract and $250 total for the 10 contracts. The $0.25 premium reduces the cost basis on the shares to $43.75, so any drop in the underlying down to this point will be offset by the premium received from the option position, thus offering limited downside protection.

The Foreign Exchange Market is by far the biggest market in the world in terms of liquidity and trading volume. It’s estimated that, on average, more than $5 trillion are transacted on a daily basis. Clearly, the forex market is huge. Developing an effective forex trading strategy can earn you an almost limitless amount of money over time. It’s no surprise, trading in the Forex market is so exciting. Forex trading is free and it’s very cheap to get started as a trader in the FX market.
A lot presents the minimum that you can trade in the Forex market and is in correlation with the risk. If you are a trader, you will have to check and look for the most convenient lot size that matches your current trading account. Again, be aware that the market is very active and is rapidly changing. Therefore, if you don’t have any huge trade, a 100 pip movement won’t affect your account. On the contrary, a huge lot with the same pip movement (100 pip) will definitely result as a loss. It is significant to recognize which lot size is the most convenient for you.

Margin – To be able to trade on leverage, you need to put a small part of your trading account aside as collateral for the leveraged trade. Don’t worry, your broker does everything automatically for you. The margin will be returned to your trading account once you close your leveraged trade or it hits its exit price. The following table shows the required margin to open a trade, based on the used leverage ratio. For example, a leverage of 100:1 requires a margin of 1%.
As we mentioned earlier, sometimes an option gives you the right to buy a stock at a certain price, and sometimes it gives you the right to sell a stock at a certain price. And for every option holder, there's also someone on the other end who's on the hook if the holder exercises the option to buy or sell at the expiration date. Those are the basics of how to trade options.
Creating a trading plan is a critical component of successful trading. It should include your profit goals, risk tolerance level, methodology and evaluation criteria. Once you have a plan in place, make sure each trade you consider falls within your plan’s parameters. Remember: you’re likely most rational before you place a trade and most irrational after your trade is placed.
CFTC Rules 4.41 - Hypothetical or Simulated performance results have certain limitations. Unlike an actual performance record, simulated results do not represent actual trading. Also, because the trades have not actually been executed, the results may have under-or-over compensated for the impact, if any, of certain market factors, such as lack of liquidity. Simulated trading programs, in general, are also subject to the fact that they are designed with the benefit of hindsight. No representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profit or losses similar to those shown. Testimonials appearing may not be representative of other clients or customers and is not a guarantee of future performance or success.
An alternative to call options are put options, which give the buyer the right to sell the underlying security at the strike price. Put options generally are bought when the purchaser expects the value of the stock, also known as the underlying security, to fall, and sold when the seller thinks the value of the stock is going rise or stay relatively constant.

I agree with some of the other reviewers that the book really could have used better editing, or any editing at all. The thing that most bothered me was the size of the book; The full 8.5x11 pages were almost unwieldy, as I like to bring my books to work and read when I have the opportunity, which is usually behind the wheel of a parked truck. It was hard to carry around all day, as it did not fit in my lunch box. Neither of these issues take away from the fact that the information provided is good, the book can be the start to a solid foundation. It is not the be all, end all, but as I said before it is a great start.

The US dollar is involved in around 80% of all Forex transactions, which makes it the single most traded currency on the Forex market. All currencies are quoted in pairs, which consist of the base and the counter-currency. The exchange rate always shows the price of the base currency, expressed in terms of the counter-currency. For example, if the EURUSD (euro vs. US dollar) pair trades at 1.20, this means that it takes $1.20 USD to buy 1 euro.

Pips – Pips are the smallest increment that currency pairs can change in value. A pip refers to the fourth decimal place of an exchange rate, but bear in mind that some pairs that include the Japanese yen have their pips on the second decimal place. For example, if the EURUSD pair rises from 1.2050 to 1.2057, this would equal an increase of 7 pips. On the other hand, if USDJPY rises from 110.35 to 110.42, this would also equal an increase of 7 pips.

What do buying and selling currencies look like? First of all, there is always someone buying a pair of currencies and someone selling a pair. The process of making a profit by buying and selling goes like this: You buy US $3000 by selling 2000 euros. This means that you are predicting the value of the US dollar will increase against the euro. If you were right, then, another step needs to be taken to make a profit. You need to sell your US $3000 into euros. Now you will obtain more than 2000 euros. The process as you can see is quite simple.
Options are contracts giving the owner the right to buy or sell an asset at a fixed price (called the “strike price”) for a specific period of time. That period of time could be as short as a day or as long as a couple of years, depending on the option. The seller of the option contract has the obligation to take the opposite side of the trade if and when the owner exercises the right to buy or sell the asset. For more information, check out the Ally Invest Options Playbook here: https://www.optionsplaybook.com/
If the price of the underlying increases and is above the put's strike price at maturity, the option expires worthless and the trader loses the premium but still has the benefit of the increased underlying price. On the other hand, if the underlying price decreases, the trader’s portfolio position loses value, but this loss is largely covered by the gain from the put option position. Hence, the position can effectively be thought of as an insurance strategy.
Lawrence G. McMillan's book on options trading is a bestseller and it's widely regarded as one of the most comprehensive options guides on the market. It covers the fundamentals of options, how they work, and why you might consider investing in them, before diving into specific options trading strategies and emerging market trends that could affect those strategies.
Suppose a trader wants to invest $5,000 in Apple (AAPL), trading around $165 per share. With this amount, he or she can purchase 30 shares for $4,950. Suppose then that the price of the stock increases by 10% to $181.50 over the next month. Ignoring any brokerage, commission or transaction fees, the trader’s portfolio will rise to $5,445, leaving the trader with a net dollar return of $495, or 10% on the capital invested.
Let’s continue this Forex trading basics tutorial with the major currencies that are traded on the Forex market. Those include the US dollar (USD), euro (EUR), British pound (GBP), Swiss franc (CHF), Japanese yen (JPY), Australian dollar (AUD), New Zealand dollar (NZD) and the Canadian dollar (CAD). Besides these eight major currencies, there are two more currencies that round up the G10 currencies – the Norwegian krone (NOK) and the Swedish krone (SEK).
When to use it: A short put is a good strategy when you expect the stock to rise above the strike price by expiration. The stock needs to be only at or above the strike price for the option to expire worthless, letting you keep the whole premium received. Your broker will want to make sure you have enough equity in your account to buy the stock, if it’s put to you. Many traders will hold enough cash in their account to purchase the stock, if the put finishes in the money.
Rosenberg, then an analyst at Merrill Lynch, wrote one of the definitive works on forex trading. It was first published in 1995, and ever since, analysts and traders have turned to his concise, intuitive, and brainy text. It combines the macroeconomics of foreign exchange and international monetary dynamics with fundamental and technical analysis. Rosenberg's ability to delineate clear connections between disparate financial and economic factors continues to make Currency Forecasting a go-to guide for currency traders.

A good forex broker should have a direct channel customer support system. In today’s financial trading world, having an instant response email, Call Me Back and Live Chat feature are very basic requirements. It is simply unthinkable that a broker who makes so much money from commissions and spread charges cannot afford to put in place such instant communication systems. So the best forex trading brokers for beginners are those who provide a means of instant and fast communication.

Reward/risk: In this example, the married put breaks even at $21, or the strike price plus the cost of the $1 premium. Below $21, the long put offsets the decline in the stock dollar for dollar. Above $21, the total profit increases $100 for every dollar increase in the stock, though the put expires worthless and the trader loses the full amount of the premium paid, $100 here.
From the option writer’s (seller) perspective, if the stock price is below the strike price, then the option is known to be “out of the money.” When the option is out of the money at expiration, then the option becomes worthless. This is good for the option writer because he profits by keeping the premium paid by the buyer. (Every buyer of an option must pay a premium to the seller of the option). When the option becomes worthless, the option writer does not have to pay the option holder anything and keeps the premium he received.
The blender costs $100 to manufacture, and the U.S. firm plans to sell it for €150—which is competitive with other blenders that were made in Europe. If this plan is successful, the company will make $50 in profit because the EUR/USD exchange rate is even. Unfortunately, the USD begins to rise in value versus the euro until the EUR/USD exchange rate is 0.80, which means it now costs $0.80 to buy €1.00.
